« J'ai arpenté le monde virtuel dénommé Second Life de 2009 à 2012, sous divers pseudonymes et en veillant à arborer les avatars les plus anodins, les plus anonymes, les plus passe-partout possibles, pour être toujours le newbie, le touriste, celui qu'on ne remarque pas - je n'ai vu qu'une partie infime de ce monde, j'en ai conscience, et j'ai raté sans doute un nombre incalculable d'endroits artistiques, sexy, ou qui étaient le lieu de conférences, d'expositions et autres rencontres dignes d'intérêt - mais ça n'était de toutes manières pas le sens de ma démarche. Ce que je voulais, c'était fixer, de Second Life, ce qui était en train de disparaître ou allait disparaître. Garder une trace de mes propres errances dans les zones désertées, promises à l'effacement.
Second Life est en train de mourir, c'est chose entendue. On peut y passer des heures sans croiser personne ; et souvent, ceux qui s'y croisent n'ont rien à se dire. L'univers sonore, dans Second Life, n'est pas, ou si peu, produit par les êtres humains ou leur activité ; les voix, les bruitages produits par les actions des résidents, comme on les appelle, sont minimes, minoritaires. Mais il y a ce vent, permanent. Un souffle grave et profond. La vraie voix du cyberespace. »

"I walked the virtual world called Second Life from 2009 to 2012, under various pseudonyms and taking care to wear the most innocuous, anonymous, all-purpose avatars possible, to always be the newbie, the tourist, the one who is not noticed - I have only seen a tiny part of this world, I am aware of that, and I probably missed countless artistic, sexy places, or places where conferences, exhibitions and other meetings were taking place - but that was not the point of my approach anyway. What I wanted to do was to fix, from Second Life, what was disappearing or going to disappear. To keep a trace of my own wanderings in the deserted zones, promised to erase. Second Life is dying, it is understood. One can spend hours there without meeting anyone; and often, those who meet there have nothing to say. The sound universe, in Second Life, is not, or so little, produced by the human beings or their activity; the voices, the noises produced by the actions of the residents, as they are called, are minimal, minority. But there is this wind, permanent. A deep and grave breath. The true voice of cyberspace."
